Velká Úpa, one of the best-known recreational centres in Krkonoše, is a part of the municipality of Pec pod Sněžkou. It stretches along both banks of the Úpa river in the length of five kilometres and thus welcomes visitors to the town. Its favourable location below the highest Czech mountain, healthy climate, beauties of the nature and suitable terrains create good conditions for recreation, tourism and winter sports, above all skiing. A cableway from Velká Úpa to the Portáš huts is available for tourists and guests all year round.
Winter activities:
Just 5 minutes walk from Slovanka is bus stop and the bottom station of 3man chair lift "Portášky" part of Ski resort "Černá hora - Pec", which has a total of 37 km ski slopes. There ara also Ski rental; ski school for children as well as for adults; rope tow lift for beginners; night skiing. Ski buses to the rest of the ski resorts "Pec pod Sněžkou - Černá hora" are for free.

"Sněžka" peek is only 6 km walk , the town of Pec pod Sněžkou is 2 km walk and top of "Černá hora" is 5 km. In the center of Velka Upa are mountain bikes rental, children's playground, bowling.
